Working Principle:
The water sample flows into the sampling chamber. As the piston moves upward, the water sample is drawn into the orifice. When the piston moves downward, the sample water is expelled from the orifice. Suspended particles in the water temporarily adhere to the surfaces of the piston and cylinder. As the water is pushed back by the piston, the positive and negative charges surrounding these particles move downwards towards the electrodes. The detected signal is amplified and ultimately converted into the displayed SCV value. This electrical current, generated by the movement of charges, is referred to as the "Streaming Current."
Technical Overview:
The Streaming Current Detector (SCD) is an instrument for the online monitoring of coagulation efficiency in alum dosing. It serves as a key component in automatic chemical dosing systems for raw water/wastewater coagulation and sedimentation processes. The online SCD from LUCEUDT can be used for controlling coagulation and chemical dosing in water treatment plants, as well as in processes like sludge thickening, dewatering, and filter pressing in wastewater treatment. It measures chemically treated water samples, where charged ions or colloidal particles in the sample generate a current between the two electrodes within the SCD's sampling chamber. The magnitude of this current depends on the net concentration of positive (or negative) ions remaining in the water after coagulation. Therefore, the Streaming Current value indirectly reflects the effectiveness of the coagulation process.
